8th International Human Rights

The 8th International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival Docudays UA will be held
March, 25—31, 2011 in Kyiv, Ukraine.

The Festival is a strictly non-profitable event. Its main aim is promotion of open social
dialogue, respect to human rights and dignity, strengthening supremacy of law in the Ukraine.
Program

Organizers will concentrate equally on both artistic merit and human rights content. Acceptance
or rejection films is totally depend upon the artistic and topical value of the films. The Festival
has both competitive and non-competitive programs.

For Art Competition and Human Rights Competition – only films completed after 1st January
2010 may be submitted to the selection.

For Non-Competitive Program – the Festival does not limit the term of production and release of
film. The main condition is that a film must not be demonstrated in Ukraine earlier.

Please, do not offer films produced for order of organizations or projects. Films that serve as
vehicles of political or social propaganda, promote interests of public campaigns, lobbying
factions or business companies, films that are principally instructive or didactic will be rejected
immediately.

Participation in other festivals will not preclude documentary films from participation in
Docudays UA.

There are two competitive categories: Art Competition and Human Rights Competition.

The Non-Competitive Program is composed of retrospectives and thematic categories.
The Festival will present:
- Best films of New Documentary language
- Best films on human rights protection
- Special projects
- Documentary Co-production
- Workshop
- Master classes delivered by leading experts in documentary

Kino Polska short nominated for EFA award

Hanoi-Warsaw, a short fillm directed by Katarzyna Klimkiewicz for Kino Polska Television (www.kinopolska.pl) has been nominated for the EFA award in the Short Film category. Nominees in the Short Film category are selected at 14 major international film festivals. Hanoi-Warwaw was nominated by the 33rd Norwegian Short Film Festival Jury.

Hanoi-Warsaw won a screenplay competition for young talents. The co-producers were Mastershot Studio, 1.2 Film Association, Polish Filmmakers Association and the Andrzej Munk Studio “The Young and Film”.

Hanoi-Warsaw won the Special Jury Prize in the Young Cinema Competition on the 34th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, and the actress, Thu Ha Mai (Mai Anh) received the honorable mention. The film was also presented at festivals in the Encounters Short Film Festival in Bristol, “Go Short” International Short Film Festival in Nijmegen, Next International Short Film Festival in Bucharest, River Film Festival in Padua, and at the 50th Krakow Film Festival.

The film tells the story of a young Vietnamese girl, Mai Anh, who illegally crosses the Polish border. The woman has to reach Warsaw, where her fiancé waits for her. Travel across Poland is full of humiliation and violence.

Kino Polska Television is one of the most popular movie channels in Poland, focusing on the promotion of Polish cinema. It is available on all digital platforms and in most of cable operators with household coverage over 7 millions.

Dialëktus European Documentary and Anthropological Film Festival 2010

In 2010, 43 documentaries from 15 nations line up to compete for the Golden Deer Award! This year’s retrospective programme commemorates the life and works of Pál Zolnay. During the festival we will once again organise the popular Docu-critic workshop. The myDEER Workshop, a documentary film development workshop and pitching forum, will be held in Hungary for the first time during the festival!

6. BUSHO COMPETITION PROGRAM

The pre-jury have made their decision: HERE IS THE PROGRAM OF THE COMPETITION 2010. For now it lists all the participants the screening schedule will be announced at a later stage. There is one award already decided who to go to, the best selection award that is. Obviously we won’t give out the name of the winner but the nominations list only. According to the law of math and their outstanding work the most shorts came from Spain but there will be at least one Hungarian work in each screening section. Beside the fiction movies there are 15 animation and 10 experimental works that made it to the competition. Again all registered Hungarian (that of match our entry requirements) shorts will be showcased off competition along with several other works in the frame of Panorama section.

Call for Participants: “Visions of Prague – The Invaders” Filmmaking Workshop

NISI MASA in partnership with Fresh Film Fest is organizing a documentary workshop based on the concept of “Visions of a city” from 23rd to the 30th of August 2010 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Aged 18-26, from France, Italy, Spain, Austria and the Czech Republic.

The concept of the workshop is to invite young filmmakers from five different countries to investigate the city of Prague and attend some general presentations.

There will be 4 people in each group. After having selected the content and the story together, the groups will shoot and edit their short movies. They will be supported by 2 professional tutors.

The application deadline for candidates is the 18th of July 2010.

Open for Entries: ALCINE – Alcalá de Henares

The European Short Film Competition is now open for entries to any short film made in Europe; i.e.produced or co-produced in one of the following countries: European Union members, Iceland, Norway or Switzerland, completed after January the 1st 2009 and with a maximum running time of 30 minutes.

Spanish short films must be submitted to the National Short Film Competition. The selection committee will choose some of these to participate in the European Competition as well.

“ALCINE” Awards
First Prize: 6,000 Euros.
Second Prize: 4,000 Euros.
Third Prize: 2,000 Euros.

The “ALCINE” awards will be divided in equal parts between the producer and director of the award-winning film. The sum is subject to regulations determined by applicable legislation.

Istanbul Express Filmmaking Workshop

3 Trains, 24 Cities, 10920 km of railway

Istanbul Express: Exploring Multilingualism across Europe is a filmmaking workshop aiming to explore common issues about languages. Participants aged 18 – 30 will answer these questions in a stimulating atmosphere, far away from clichés and preconceived ideas. They will meet locals from stopover cities, travellers in the train. They will see the cultural differences with their own eyes during these long trips. Crossing the multiple borders and experiencing different linguistic situations first-hand may be the best way to understand them.

15 films will be made in 3 weeks on the trains and 1 week in Istanbul

Film crews will meet in Tallinn (Estonia), San Sebastian (Spain) and Turin (Italy) on the 20th of September, starting the journey and finally arriving Istanbul on the 10th of October. The trains will travel through Europe and stopping at the following cities:
- Tallinn / Helsinki / Turku / Stockholm / Berlin / Prague / Bratislava / Bucharest / Istanbul
- San Sebastian / Paris / Brussels / Amsterdam / Essen / Vienna / Budapest / Sofia / Istanbul
- Turin / Ljubljana / Zagreb / Pecs / Belgrad / Skopje / Thessaloniki / Istanbul

Multilingualism and traveling are main themes this year for NISI MASA! Exactly the themes defining our new Euro-generation! Follow NISI MASA for our new projects including linguistics and exploring different geographies!

The world premiere of the films shot and edited during the project, will be made in Istanbul, the European Capital of Culture in 2010, with a series of events including screenings, panels, parties, meetings.

NISI MASA – FILMINI: submissions are open

FILMINI Festival is the most important event in Bulgaria dedicated to short films. The particular character of the festival originates from its diverse competition programme, as well as from a range of accompanying events: tributes, workshops, master classes among others. A special focus of the festival is films coming from the Balkans.
