FEST Training Ground is an educational event where new and upcoming filmmakers and film students from all over the world gather in one week, to attend a deluxe training that includes workshops, master classes and debates headed by some of the industry’s top experts with highly acknowledged achievements. The event is one of the largest film forums in the world.

The program approaches key issues related to film making and the film industry, such as Script Writing, sound editing, production design, film sales and distribution. The event aims at being as complete as possible and as such allowing each participant to tailor make his or hers experience according to his or hers preferences and priorities. The event will take place between the 27th of June and the 2st of July 2011, in Espinho, a tourism orientated city and one of the summer hotspots of Portugal, 15 minutes south of Porto, in the seacoast line. All activities will be in Centro Multimeios de Espinho, a modern high quality infrastructure with IMAX screen, planetarium, café, computer room and free wire­less Internet.


Participants will be provided with the highest standard of speakers and lecturers, recognized worldwide for their work and achievements. The event will program a diverse number of film experts. Participants will be able to interact with them in debates, small group sessions or even informal meetings, besides, of course, the Master Classes.

Some of the names already confirmed for this edition are: David Macmillan (Winner of three Oscars in the area of sound); Eugenio Cabalero (Oscar winning art director that worked on films such as “Pan´s Labirynth”); Chadi Zeneddine (director of “Falling from Earth”); Marc Price (British Director of “Colin”); Scandar Copti (Oscar nominated Palestinian director, Winner of the Golden Camera at Cannes); Irena Taskovsky (producer and expert on pitching); Guillermo Garcia Ramos (famous Spanish documentary filmmakers); Victor Garcia Leon (Spanish director and actor winner of one Goya Award and many other nominations);  Marie Dubas (French Producer and expert on international Co-Productions for Short Films); Nicolas Keiser (French expert on Sales and distribution); Martin Dale (Scriptwriter and journalist at Variety); and many others.

There will be around 30 experts in total, including a few very high profile figures about to confirm their presence.

The event takes place at the same time as the Festival. Passes for Training Ground give access to all film screenings.

Prices are as low as possible in order to allow mass participation. They vary from 59.99Euros to 120Euros, depending on requirement of accomodation, which is included in the price.
