Concorto is about to open its 13th edition. This year they have 44 short films in competition with a wide variety of styles, languages, themes in the selection; they are trying to register, like a seismograph, where cinema is moving today.

The official selection is listed here.

Concorto will have a jury to assign the main prize, the Golden Donkey, composed by the Mexican director Victor Orozco, the Italian artist and director DEM (http://demdemonio.org), the Ukrainian actress Lidiya Liberman (protagonist of the last Marco Bellocchio film, “L’ultimo Vampiro”, in production), the pianist Umberto Petrin and the head of the Italian short-film promotion entity CNC, Jacopo Chessa.

There will be a younger jury of high school students too that will assign an award, and the audience will have the chance to vote each night so that at the end of the festival week there will be an Audience Award as well.

Concorto has many out of competition programmes. For some years, they have had a focus on a specific country/region. After Poland, Israel, Québec, South Korea, and Sweden, it will be Belgium this year. Concorto will present 10 of the best Belgian films of the last few years.

Other out of competition programmes include a special programme of post-narrative films, jurors films, a retrospective of the work of the artist Rino Stefano Tagliaferro and a concert of pianist and jury member Umberto Petrin that will musicate Buster Keaton short films.
