Interview With a Director is a Belgian short film from the Short Film Catalogue, represented in Cannes this year, at the Short Film Corner. We asked a couple of questions from the director Ivana Noa, read her answers below.
What is your film about? What are the main topics raised by the story?
Interview With a Director is a documentary about the Iraqi-Belgian theater director Mokhallad Rasem and his most difficult moments from his youth: living in a bunker long years, hearing the bombs every night. He has survived 3 wars and even then, he has received the motivation and strength of his parents to develop his talent and become the rising star of Belgian and Dutch Theatre. It is so good to see that people do not always depend on where they are born. They should not be stereotyped as “refugees”, but seen as individuals, having incredible talents.
Who is the target audience of your film?
Everyone. Social media makes everyone feel the wars across the globe. This film is a very positive way to say: we all are human and we all are good.
Why did you decided to submit your short film to the Short Film Corner?
Cannes film festival is the one, which gives a huge opportunity to young filmmakers to showcase their thoughts and visions. They always are on the edge of the modern world even when it has so much pain in it. I highly appreciate the Festival idea to organise a documentary corner, refugee day, LGBT day, etc.
