Cinéfondation Prizes 2010

This year the Cinéfondation Selection showed 13 student films coming from Asia, Europe, North and South America.
The Cinéfondation and Short Films Jury, presided by Atom Egoyan, composed of film directors Carlos Diegues and Marc Recha and actresses Emmanuelle Devos and Dinara Droukarova, has awarded the Cinéfondation prizes during a ceremony in the Buñuel Theatre.

First Prize:
TAULUKAUPPIAAT (The Painting Sellers)

Second Prize:
COUCOU-LES-NUAGES (Anywhere Out of the World)
directed by Vincent Cardona
La fémis, France

Third Prize (joint winners):

HINKERORT ZORASUNE (The Fifth Column)
directed by Vatche Boulghourjian
NYU, United States

directed by Dane Komljen

The jury was extremely impressed with the quality of the selection, particularly the excellence of the directors’ work with actors. All the films strove to find unique ways of harnessing cinematographic vision with delicate and often haunting performances.” Atom Egoyan

The awarded films will receive 15 000 € for the First Prize, 11 250 € for the Second Prize and 7 500 € for the Third Prize.
The 13 competing films have been selected among over 1500 submitted.

Films of directors from previous Cinéfondation Selections are present in different sections of the Festival: Tender Son – The Frankenstein Project by Kornél Mundruczó in Competition, Pál Adrienn by Ágnes Kocsis at Un Certain Regard, All Good Children by Alicia Duffy at the Directors’ Fortnight and Cynthia todavia tiene las llaves by Gonzalo Tobal at the Critic’s Week.
The Cinéfondation Selection, created in 1998, is proud to have accompanied the work and development of these new talents of international cinema.

Winners of Clermont-Ferrand

Since Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival is a true home of short films and it has a very prestigious competition, the winners of the festival are giving us a good overview of the landscape of the actual short film industry.

The Finalists for Cartoon Movie Tributes 2009

cartoon.jpgThe European Association of Animation Film has announced this week the nominees selected for the Cartoon Movie Tributes 2009.

The winners will be announced at the Centre de Congrès in Lyon on 7 March.

The nominees are:


Best European Director of the Year

* Thorbjørn Christoffersen, Craig Frank and Kresten Vestbjerg Andersen (Denmark) for «Journey to Saturn»
* Jacques-Rémy Girerd (France) for «Mia and the Migoo»
* Tomm Moore (Ireland) for «The Secret of Kells»

Best European Distributor of the Year

* BAC Films (France)
* Intersonic (Slovak Republic)
* Lusomundo (Portugal)

Best European Producer of the Year

* Anima Vitae / Cinemaker (Finland) / Ulysses (Germany) / A. Film (Denmark) / Magma Films (Ireland) for «Niko & the Way to the Stars»
* Crone Film (Denmark) / Sola Media (Germany) for «Sunshine Barry and the Disco Worms»
* Kandor Graphics / Perro Verde Films / Green Moon (Spain) for «The Missing Lynx»

The organisers of Cartoon Movie also announced that the Danish film «Journey to Saturn» has been chosen to open the event on Wednesday 4 March. Produced by A. Film and directed by Thorbjørn Christoffersen, Craig Frank and Kresten Vestbjerg Andersen, this unconventional CGI animation tells with adult humour the space journey of an incompetent crew of Danish astronauts. Based on the classic Danish graphic novel by Claus Deleuran the film was released last September in Denmark.

Cartoon Movie 2009 is organised with the support of the Media Programme of the European Union, CNC (Centre Nationale du Cinématographie), the Rhône Alpes Region, Greater Lyon and in collaboration with the Cluster Rhône Alpes Imaginove (Lyon).
