BuSho Film Festival Calls for Entries!

Friday, April 1st, 2011

About the festival
This year’s Busho Film Festival will take place from 30th August to 3rd September 2011. The festival was established in 2004 by a group of young Hungarian filmmakers in order to fill a gap in the category of short film, but during the years it became clear that it was about much more. The name “BuSho” has come from a pun (Budapest Short), but it refers to a traditional popular custom of winter-send-of from Southern Hungary called “busójárás”.
To get some ideas about the types of shorts that usually compete in BuSho we have a collection of the last years best films from the festival on Daazo.com. It’s worth checking them out: http://daazo.com/bushofestival/

This year’s call for entries is now open!

You can submit your films on-line.

Preview format: Upload your film in MPEG4 format, 720×576. File size limit is 150MB.

Entry deadline: 30th April 2011.
After the pre-jury decision the online filled and signed entry form has to be sent with the screening copy to the following adress:
BuSho Film Festival, Gombolyag Foundation,
1141, Budapest, Szugló u. 83. Hungary

This materials will not be returned!
The date on the stamp is decisive in case of postal delivery.

Moving Districts European Audiovisual Workshop in Budapest

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Workshop and Screenings from the organisers of EuShorts Film Festival

This spring Budapest is welcoming young artists from Iceland, France, England and Poland to join forces with a couple of Hungarian creatives within the framework of the Moving Districts European Audiovisual Workshop organized by the creators of EuShorts Film Festival. The workshop is open to anybody interested in making short films or in thinking about cities around us. You can follow the teams’ working process online on www.movingdistricts.tumblr.com and see the final results live as well.

The aim of the initiative is to create a platform for young artists from different countries to communicate and create art using the city of Budapest as an inspiration for their works. The participants teamed up have to make a visual portfolio about the city which can be screened on buildings at the final event. Furthermore they have to make short films in teams also inspired by any of the districts of Budapest. The final program is going to be on 26th March in the Fogasház in Budapest. From 8 p.m. on all the portfolios made by the teams can be watched and all participants are open to discussions.

The workshop also accompanies a mini short film festival called EuShorts Likes: Horror and Porn on 24th-25th March in the Kino Mozi in Budapest. If you happen to be in town check it out!

You can find more information about the workshop and the short film festival on the official website.

Raindance Budapest Short Film Project

Friday, January 14th, 2011

Taught by director Gergő Fonyó, screenwriter András M. Kovács, and editor/producer Gábor Kertai
Location: Budapest
January 27-30

This course will teach you how to make a short film. By the end of the course you will have planned shot, and edited a short film with your small group.

Nowadays there is no excuse not to make the short film you have been telling your friends and family you are going to make for the last five years. With the arise of digital camera and editing, and the amount of actors out there, it is actually easier to make a short film, than explain to people why you haven’t made it.  The only way to learn about film making is to make films.  This course will take away all the confusion about shooting short films and complications that you might think exist.

This course is limited to 10 students inorder to ensure a productive work environment.  The class will be divided into 2 groups. The first two evenings will encompass development of script and planning of the shoot.  The 3rd day will be a full day of shooting.  On the final day the students will edit their films and then evaluate the final product.   Equipment, actors, and instruction will be provided.

For more information about the course in Hungarian visit the Raindance Budapest website , or write to daniel@raindance.org.

Who should attend:
Anyone who has a basic understanding of how to shoot but has yet to make a short film.

People in other departments (sound, production, editing etc) who feel they want to know more about actual film making rather than just talking about it all day long.

Anyone thinking about making their own short film, but lacking experience and confidence – Do this course first and then your short film will be a thousand times better. *

Also people who are passionate about films, but have never had the opportunity to actually make one – it is never too late to start!

Lo-to-No Budget Filmmaking and writing course with Elliot Grove

Monday, November 15th, 2010

Want to make a movie and don’t know where to start? There has never been a better time to break into the British film industry. British independent filmmakers are the toast of Hollywood. The 2009 Golden Globe successes of Slumdog Millionaire, In Bruges and Happy Go Lucky have proven that.

This intensive weekend seminar shows you how to shoot a 35mm colour quality feature film, ninety minutes long with a Dolby stereo soundtrack for as little as £10,000. They did it at Raindance. They made the 35mm feature film Table 5 for just £278.38. Share they first-hand experience in making movies that look great on a minimal budget.

All formats, including film, HDV and HD, and even mobile phones are discussed.

Elliot Grove has developed a clear process that will assist you in producing, directing and selling your first feature film. This is the step-by-step method which launches successful careers. Movies like Pi, The Blair Witch Project, Chuck and Buck, Clerks and El Mariachi were all made using the principles that are demonstrated through lecture and video clips on this course. The writers, directors or producers of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Janice Beard 45 wpm, Waking Ned, Sliding Doors, Slumdog Millionare and Memento have all attended this intensive seminar before making their first films.

Food, drinks, film, Music – Gastro-Visual Weekend

Friday, July 31st, 2009

All that your eyes and mouth desire (or something along these lines)

The Budapest Odeon-Lloyd Cinema, with the co-operation of Nisi Masa, Védegylet (Protect the Future!) Tudatos Vásárlók Egyesülete (Conscientious Consumers Association) and Daazo have organized a two-day-long gastro-visual series called Food, Drinks, Film, Music, between 31 July and 1 August.

We’ll await you with film screenings, talks, a spritzer-bar, wine- and food tastings. Events will give you an insight into the Hungarian and international wine scene and provide you with loads of interesting facts about the history and culture of Hungarian cult drinks.

Food-lovers can meet the Freegan and the Slow Food movements, as well as the most popular gastro-bloggers. You can also participate in talks on the different areas of the countryside and our hardly-known fruit and vegetable varieties.

Screenings will offer you more gastronomical delicacies, such as rarely screened short- and feature films on the wonderful, often shocking and new world of food and wine. The films of Matter of Taste project (organized by Nisi Masa and Daazo) will be screened as well.

And to make this weekend a really light but still substantial summer event, we await you with continuous food and drink promotions at the buffet of the cinema and with the pleasant tunes of Dj InstabiL.

LFS announces dates for low-budget film forum

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

london_film_schoolThe event, which is in its second year, is a forum, festival, conference and graduate training workshop. It aims to bring together French, Danish, Hungarian and UK directors and producers with young film-makers.

It is hoped that through its workshops and sessions, which will contrast funding, marketing and distribution across the four countries, it will have an impact on policy and practice across Europe.

The London Film School (LFS) works in partnership with La Femis, the National Film School of Denmark and Budapest Academy of Drama and Film, theUrania Cinema and The Budapest Academy of Drama and Film.

LFS director Ben Gibson said: “Recent events all around the world remind us how much the creative community needs to build value. Every new Euro gets you more of a film, but loses you some freedom too. Learning to work within the numbers is a spur to creativity and helps new film-makers build careers in which the deal follows the film, rather than the other way about.”
