BUSHO 2012: Apocalypse Now!

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

The BuSho’s website has gone through a major improvement and been re-interpreted according to the requirement of present times. The words of the webmaster: ’Those who uses internet explorer 6 probably does not read the site, although it is quite common worldwide to use internet on phone or tablets. Because when you open the site in IE6 it asks you to install Chrome Frame plug-in and then it’d work fine, so basically the site isn’t optimized for, neither against anything. They refreshed the mailing list and newsletter system so if you do not want to receive newsletter anymore please click on unsubscribe so that they can delete you from the database. The online registration has been renewed too so the registration is now open for BuSho International Shortfilm Festival 2012!

From this year they can only accept shorts that is registered through the online system except if a studio, school or workshop enters 5 or more shorts, they can send them in on DVD form. Despite the crisis they would like to carry on with projects they started up over the years: 8th BuSho, 6th GomBuSho workshop, 4th LifeAd one-minute short competition and wish to have a second spot competition with poster topic too!

The annual closing party will be held at Vörösmarty cinema on 22-December-2011 starting at 6pm with plenty of interesting screenings of 2011. Unfortunately the venue of next year is still questioned since the future of this cinema hosted us for 4 years is unsecure, that’s the reason we hold this party here with a colorful program. A little bit of everything: winners, losers, workshops, EFA nominees, LifeAds, Danube mosaic, Hungarians, foreigners, animations, experiments, surprises then a Finale…

BuSho Film Festival Calls for Entries!

Friday, April 1st, 2011

About the festival
This year’s Busho Film Festival will take place from 30th August to 3rd September 2011. The festival was established in 2004 by a group of young Hungarian filmmakers in order to fill a gap in the category of short film, but during the years it became clear that it was about much more. The name “BuSho” has come from a pun (Budapest Short), but it refers to a traditional popular custom of winter-send-of from Southern Hungary called “busójárás”.
To get some ideas about the types of shorts that usually compete in BuSho we have a collection of the last years best films from the festival on Daazo.com. It’s worth checking them out: http://daazo.com/bushofestival/

This year’s call for entries is now open!

Beside the fiction movies there are 15 animation and 10 experimental works that made it to the competition. Again all registered Hungarian (that of match our entry requirements) shorts will be showcased off competition along with several other works in the frame of Panorama section.

The countrywide screenings that started last year will be extended this year, beside the existing spots such as Szeged, Szolnok and Szombathely, there will be paralell screenings abroad at the first time in BuSho’s history at the Kultúra Cinemain Magyarkanizsa, Serbia the venue just joined the BuSho board. One of the exhibitions of BuSho the ‘5 brave men of FAMU’ will be displayed at Cseh Centrum (Czech Centre) which represents the works of the new generation of Czech animation graduated from the famous University of Prague.Just like in the previous years we invited the makers of the films that taking part in the competition so as to represent their work at the festival in person. Obviously the side programs that became an integral part and helped to set up a unique image of the festival for visitors from abroad (like sightseeing on an old-timer coach, visit to the House of the Parliament, bathing at Lukács spa) won’t be left out of the program. Come along and sniff up a bit of culture: Compulsory Short Program.
