Call for Entries: Thess Short Film Festival

Submissions for this year’s festival are now open for the 4th Thessaloniki International Short Film Festival. By popular demand, the festival will again take place over two weekends, Sept.25,26 and October 1,2 & 3rd.
In its short 3-year history, THESS INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL (TISFF) has created a worldwide reputation for high quality cinema, screening and promoting talented directors from all over the world and the most reputable film schools and academies.
We are committed to maintain the same high standards for the 2010 festival and thus offer again to thousands of cinephiles a very special and important cinematic experience.
The festival will continue to focus on fiction films but we shall definitely include exceptional animation and documentary films.

Alter-Native Awards

Attila Bertóti, Krisztina Esztergályos and Pici Papai were awarded at the 17th edition of Alter-Native, Transylvania’s biggest short film contest.

The international jury of the17th Alter-Native festival awarded three short films from Hungary. Transylvania’s biggest short film contest ended on Sunday in Targu-Mures / Marosvásárhely.

Jury’s Special Prize went to Orsi Tóth and Andor Lukáts, the main characters of Coming Out directed by newcomer Pici Pápai. Radio Romania Cultural awarded Attila Bertóti’s animation Ariadne’s Thread, while the Locarno winner Variations, the diploma film by Krisztina Esztergályos was recognised with the Sándor Simó Award.

Altogether 54 shorts were presented in the competition held from 4 to 8, November in Targu-Mures.
The members of the international jury were Czabán György – film director, writer, scriptwriter, producer (HUN), Cristina Corciovescu – film critic, president of the Romanian Film Critics Association, member of FIPRESCI (ROM), José Maria Goenaga Balerdi – film director, producer (ESP), Andrei Gruzsniczki – film director, scriptwriter (ROM), Lakatos Róbert – film director, scriptwriter, producer, assistant lecturer at the Department of Media, Sapientia University (ROM), Lugossy László – film director, scriptwriter, lecturer at the Dunaversitas Workshop (HUN), Asier Muñiz – artistic director of the Boca del Lobo International Short Film Festival (ESP).

Kenyeres’ Short on US Tour

The History of Aviation has been invited to prestigious American film festivals, such as the New York, the Hamptons and the Chicago event. Paris’ Forum des Images will also screen Bálint Kenyeres’ latest short.

Bálint Kenyeres’ The History of Aviation will be introduced by the most prestigious American film showcases in the forthcoming weeks. The Hungarian-French coproduction is programmed at the 47th New York Film Festival. The latest short directed by Bálint Kenyeres will be presented among this year’s outstanding movies at the Lincoln Center on the 26th September.

Following the New York premiere, the Hamptons festival will also screen the latest film of the European Film Award winner Hungarian director (Before Dawn, 2006). The Hamptons Film Festival kicks off on the 8th October.

The American tour of The History of Aviation will continue with the Chicago IFF, where the short got invited in the competition.

Simultaneously with the American premieres, the Forum des Images in Paris will also screen Bálint Kenyeres’ short movie. The History of Aviation will be presented on the 25th September at the prestigious screening location in the French capital.

Best Film on Food announced

The Matter of Taste main event – a week of screenings, debates and culinary evenings at the Lago Film Fest – came to a close last night with the jury awarding the “golden frog” to their favourite short film in our competition!

The Matter of Taste films are continuing their European tour in the next few months, and a DVD will be released soon as well as a colorful report of the presentation of Daazo at the lovely Lago Film Festival.
