Torino Film Lab – Script & Pitch workshop: applications now open

Now in its 7th year, Script&Pitch is an advanced script development course for scriptwriters and directors of first and second features from all over the world, open also to story editors, creative producers and audience designers that wish to develop their skills while working with projects that are at early development stage.

Deadline for applications: December 10th, 2011

The course lasts 11 months (from March to January) and we select 20 participants who will follow the entire development process, from the generating of ideas and structuring of the material through a first and second draft up to a final pitch in front of a group of international producers and sales agents.

A new way to write films, in Romania

StradaFilm in collaboration with Policy Center for Roma Minorities and the Script association, supported by the European Union, is launching a script laboratory in Romania, Strangers Script Lab, which will take place this year in two locations of the country, from July to October.

The purpose of Strangers Script Lab is to achieve professional screenplays that have the potential to become successful films, while also creating a valuable learning experience that will further encourage young Romanian writers to interact with people from various artistic fields.

Professional and non-professional screenwriters are invited to visit the site www.strangerslab.eu, go to the Apply section and fill in the application with a ten page treatment, a 3-5 pages sample from a previous work (literature, screenplay, playwright etc.), their personal CV, and a photography, following the Rules section.

This year’s focus is on ethnical discrimination. To be eligible, your treatment must include this theme.

Five screenwriters will be selected to participate in the laboratory,  where they will develop their projects from the treatment stage to a final draft version of a feature length script, under the guidance of field experts.

The lab’s guests will consist of lecturers from the European film industry, and as well as important people from the Romanian media, cultural and artistic scene, along with students which will take part in focus groups that will openly debate the 5 proposals for the Laboratory.

In the end, a jury will award the best script with 2000 Euros. This is a free of charge laboratory. All costs will be suported by the organisers.

The call for entry for Strangers Script Lab has been launched today, May 16th 2011.

This project was presented at the Cannes Film Festival by the organizers.

The deadline for submission is June 15th.

NISI MASA and European Short Pitch Join Forces – Call For Scripts!

European Short Pitch 2011

As of this year, it becomes a direct Call for Scripts in the framework of European Short Pitch.

Initiated in 2007, European Short Pitch is a scriptwriting and pitching project aiming to support the development of young directors and to get their short films made as European coproductions. The 5th edition in 2011 will be composed of a rewriting sesion and a producer’s forum.

Young Europeans from the following countries: Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Kosovo, Luxembourg, Macedonia, The Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Turkey, aged between 18 and 28 sent their scripts.

The NISI MASA know-how and experience is concentrated during two events that are committed to the future of European short film productions.

First, 25 young European talents are brought together in residence at the Moulin d’Andé-Céci (France) in order to rewrite, discuss and learn about the ways of promoting their project.
Supported by experienced tutors, chosen for their thorough knowledge of short film dramaturgy and their European experience, they prepare for the second session: a unique pitching session in front of 30 European producers and buyers, held during a European film festival.

Nisi Masa Script Contest TABOO – 15 days’ left

From today on you have exactly 15 days remaining to send in your short script about TABOO (up to 20.000 characters, spaces included).

The 12  winners will receive a full scholarship to NISI MASA’s European Short Pitch workshop, that offers two unique sessions of scriptwriting, script-editing and pitching in front of a large panel of European producers: the best chances and industry professionals for your film.

7th European Script Contest for Short Film Scripts

Organised from the 15th of April to the 31st of July, the NISI MASA contest takes place simultaneously in all its member countries in Europe .

For this 7th edition, the new theme is: Escape.

The contest is open to every youngster from 18 to 28, living in one of the organising countries. Each participant must write a short-film script of 20,000 characters maximum on the assigned theme, in one of the official languages of the contest.

In January~February 2009 the three new awarded scriptwriters plus 12 of the European finalists, will be invited by NISI MASA to take part in «European Short Pitch», a scriptwriting workshop organised at the Moulin d’Andé~Céci in France, followed by pitching sessions in front of European producers.
Then, the 3 European winners will be supported by NISI MASA in the production and distribution of their films.
From the script to the screen, NISI MASA is keen on contributing to the development and circulation of innovative short films from all over Europe.

Apply to the Script&Pitch Workshops

scrippitchlogoScript&Pitch Workshops was founded in 2005 and is an advanced script-writing and development course for scriptwriters and story editors of films for both cinema and TV. It views European scriptwriting as something unique and special and therefore engage mostly European tutors, creating a healthy diversity between the individual styles of the single countries. The course lasts 10 months and it selects 20 participants from all over Europe (16 scriptwriters and 4 story editors) who will follow the whole scriptwriting process, offering education through the development of projects: From the generating of ideas and structuring of the material through a first and second draft up to a final pitch in front of invited producers and sales agents.

The tutors and organizers are experienced and well connected professionals, both in their countries and on a European level. It works from the assumption that every story needs its own individual approach, and that its form is determined by its content. Inspirational lessons from the course are shared through a yearly publication: Script&Pitch Insights, supporting our passion and aim to shed more light and dignity on the scriptwriting and story editing professions.

Course participation fee is 2.000 Euro.
This amount covers workshop training, on-line sessions, accommodation and subsistence. Participants must pay all travel costs.
For applicants from the new EU member states (Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia) the fee is 1.500 Euro and 2 scholarships are reserved to participants coming from these states. Scholarships will be assigned by merit.
